Modern Oil Painting, Urban Landscape, "Crépuscule" by Miloje Todorovitch, 1960
Wonderful and unique oil painting on canvas by the well known Serbian painter (biography at the end of the listing).
Amazing palette of blue and violet hues, depicting a village scene at twilight, in a cubist manner.
The brushstrokes are textured, on the buildings, the trees and the street lamp, adding depth to the piece.
Signed at the front in the middle of the lower edge "Miloj Todorovitch 60".
At the back the title "Crépuscule" (meaning "Twilight" or "Dusk") and the year "1960".
The painting is framed in a black and gold painted ashwood floating frame.
Please Note : minor losses on the edges (as the painting was probably framed differently in previous times) and very minor scratches here and there (use zoom-in tool to look closely at the painting).

About Miloje Todorovitch (1908 - 2002) :
A Serbian painter and architect who settled in France at the age of 27, Todorovitch fell in love with the diversity of French landscapes, which he celebrated through an inventive treatment of form and a vibrant use of color.
Born in Belgrade in 1908, Miloje Todorovitch pursued university studies in Vienna, where he trained as an architect, before returning to Belgrade to attend the Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1935, he moved to France and began his career as a painter. His artistic temperament found expression in easel painting, architecture, and drawing.
The contrast between his paintings, rich in bold and vibrant colors, and his fiercely satirical drawings highlights the complexity of his nature and the duality of his character.
He exhibited his work in Paris at the Duncan Gallery, as well as in Berlin and Rome. In 1972, a major exhibition dedicated to his work was held at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine in Paris.
