About the Item

A monumental Italian mid-19th century ornately carved and gilded frame surrounds an oil on canvas signed painting, by listed artist E.Pieracinni. The frame is carved with elaborate scrolled acanthus leaves, and masks at each corner. The round opening measures 30"D, and the scene depicts Mary embracing the Christ child while seated in a chair, with the young John the Baptist devoutly watching nearby. Painted in the manner of Renaissance artist Raphael, whose original painting is part of the permanent collection at the Palazzo Pitti, Galleria Palatina, in Florence, Italy. In remarkable condition considering the age.
