About the Item
Oil on cardboard by French artist Georges Sauveur Maury (1872 - 1960). Interior scene depicting a nude woman lying on a sofa, looking into a mirror. A painting characterized by great finesse of execution, in which shades of pink and mauve are applied in subtle layers on a light gray background.
Inscribed on the back “Georges Sauveur Maury 1872 1960”. Antique giltwood frame from the 1930s.

Georges Sauveur Maury was born in Saint Denis, north of Paris, in 1872. From these beginnings, he moved to Paris, where he was a pupil of Ferdinand Humbert (1842-1934), Alphonse-Alexis Morlot (1838-1918) and the master of floral painting dear to Van Gogh, Ernest Quost (1842-1931).
His favorite subjects were women, children and flowers, although he is also known for his landscapes and orientalist works. He was exhibited at the "Salon des Artistes Français" from 1904 to the end of the 1920s, as well as in numerous Paris museums (Musée du Luxembourg, Petit Palais, etc.). He died in Montreuil (near Paris) in 1960.
