About the Item

A beautiful original oil on canvas by American impresionnist painter, William Langson Lathrop, (1859-1938). It is titled, "Woodcutters". This oil on canvas has beautiful colors painted in a heavy texture and a stunning gold gilt frame. Signed on the lower right corner. This was on display from the Allentown Art Museum. There are also labels from the Emily Lower Gallery, Hofsta University, Hempstead, Long Island, NY 11-14-81 - 1-3-82 and from Christie's 5-23-90 and 9-27-90. The dimensions with the frame are 30.5" W x 27.5" T. The image is 24.5" W x 21.5" T.

Signed lower right. Complemented by a period frame. William L. Lathrop (1859-1938) Deemed “Father of the New Hope Art Colony”, William Langson Lathrop was born in Warren, Illinois. He was largely self-taught, having only studied briefly with William Merritt Chase in 1887, at the Art Students League.
