About the Item
The antique paintings category, Landscape Paintings proposes a Glimpse of Venice a Venetian canal. Art Deco.
The ancient painting depicts a stretch of shoreline with a leafy tree framing the scene.
On the opposite side line the Venetian palaces, tall and narrow, with warm-toned facades, reflecting in the water.
There is a small rowing boat in the canal and a white sailboat in the background that gives movement and vitality to the scene.
Reflections in the water are rendered with loose brushstrokes, capturing the light of sunset or early evening.
This is an oil painting on canvas from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century period.
The painting is signed at lower left V. Brugairolles, French figure landscape painter.
Victor Brugairolles (1869-1936) was born in Ganges, department of Hérault, France and died in Vichy.
He was a student of Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, one of the most influential masters of the time.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1894 and 1936. He was also Officier d'Académie from February 15, 1900.
Earned a medal of honor in 1898 and a second class medal in 1912
He also participated in the Salon d'Automne starting in 1907.
The antique painting bears an original gilt frame.
The painting and frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
