Oscar Hullgren (10 August 1869 – 27 April 1948) was a Swedish painter. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics.
Swedish painter Oscar Hullgren painted predominantly maritime motifs, especially landscapes of the island of Bornholm. He expressed sea in calm and storm, with designs from the Lofoten islands and beaches of the Mediterranean. Hullgren studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm and later in England. He spent some years in the Mediterranean countries and on Christiansø on Bornholm, where he worked as a prominent marine painter and founded a painters’ colony. His artworks are based on 19th century realism, his paintings showing the influence of impressionism beginning in the 1890s. His graphic works – mainly etchings – include illustrations of books.
The identification of his paintings is difficult, as Hullgren painted almost exclusively sea and coastal scenes. The painting Fiskeläge (Fishing Village) is 45 x 61 cm in size painted in oil on canvas. It is not dated, however. Also, the reference to sports cannot be established in this or any other of the coastal landscapes. Probably all works submitted in 1932 were paintings.
