About the Item
FERENC GAAL ( 1891-1956)
Ferenz, Francis or Franz Gaál was an Austro-Hungarian painter born in 1891 in Debrecen, Hungary. He studied at the Budapest Academy and traveled to France, Germany, and Italy. In 1942/43, his work was exhibited in the "Hungarian Painting of the Present" exhibition in Berlin. From 1944 to 1951, he lived in Austria before emigrating to the USA, where he first lived in Cleveland and later settled in Los Angeles. He was known for his landscape, still life, genre, and peasant paintings. He passed away in 1956.
