Oil on board of Lough Gill by Brendan McDonagh which originally hung in Killoran's Pub, Tubbercurry Co Sligo, Ireland and seen on set of the popular Irish TV Show, Normal People.
Sally Rooney’s 2018 second novel received numerous awards and was turned into a 12-part TV Show for the BBC and was viewed worldwide. The two Oil Paintings were painted by Brendan McDonagh and hung in the Irish Pub which was uniquely filled with Antiques and once dubbed: "A Museum with a Restaurant.” The Irish Pub was a critical part of the BBC TV program Normal People when the pair returned home to the make believe town of Carricklea, for the funeral of a school friend. Carricklea is depicted as the hometown of the main characters, Marianne and Connell, of County Sligo. Although Carricklea itself is not a real town, the TV show was actually filmed around the real town of Tubbercurry in County Sligo. The actual Irish Pub was owned by the married couple Tom and Annie Killoran who opened the pub in 1958 and made the quiet Irish pub into a very busy bar, restaurant and in the early 1970s. Facts about the artist; Bernard Joseph McDonagh Born 1924 Sligo, Ireland and died 2016. Bernard was best known as an impressionist landscape painter and taught at many universities. Additionally, and maybe as important, Bernard McDonagh was the founder and head of the Sligo School of Landscape Painting in 1968. Some of his most well-known murals were seen at the City Hall and Sligo Library, Summerhill College and MacSharry Park.
