About the Item

Large-format painting depicting a canal in Venice, signed A.M. Rossi, possibly attributable to Alberto Maria Rossi, an Italian artist who lived from 1879 to 1965. The vertical format shows a beautiful perspective through an archway overlooking the canal. You can recognize a city view typical for Venice with buildings with chimneys, a bridge crossing the canal and the church towers that can be seen everywhere through the city of Venice, called the Serenissima. The ships and boats that can be seen are suitable for the period around 1890 - 1920. The painting must have been created during this time. The canvas was laminated to layered board. The morning mood with the people making their way through the Serenissima draws our attention to the canal that ends in the open sea. The painting is signed in the left lower corner with "a.m. Rossi". Measurements approx.: height 100,5 cm - 39,57 in, width 70 cm - 27,56 in, depth 2 cm - 0,79 in This view through the arcade pulls the viewer into the painting and awakens a longing for Italy.
