About the Item
A lovely and most decorative pair of Italian 19th century Gouache and Giltwood paintings. Each stunning Gouache, in the manner of Michelangelo Maestri, is set within finely detailed Giltwood frames. The mottled edged Giltwood frames are decorated with consistent dentil patterns throughout. Both Gouaches depict nude maidens with cloud like garments gently wrapped around their lower body. One maiden is adorned with hoop earrings and bracelets with her hair tied back by a rose colored band and playing the tambourine. The other maiden is wearing formal earrings and bracelets with her hair held back by a floral headdress and looking into a hand mirror above her head. Both Gouaches are finished on a black background.
