About the Item

A stunning and exceptionally well executed pair of Swiss 18th century Baroque st. oil on oak paintings by Christian Stocklin. Each Architectural Capriccios painting depicts superb finely detailed ruins with exceptional architectural elements, beautiful columns, and arches. Charming personages dressed in classical attire are walking, gathering, and seated with intricate attention to detail and a charming most decorative reflection in a creek where men are fishing. Set within their original richly carved giltwood frames with beautiful scrolled foliate designs, lovely blooming flowers, and seashell reserves at the corners. Christian Stocklin (1741-1795) was a Painter born in Geneva, Swissland and who was a pupil of Antonio Galli Bibiena. He was active in Italy and Germany and died in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
