This tender painting is by Arthur Augustus Dixon, a great English artist who lived between the late 19th century and early 20th century. This painting is extremely rare for its subject, period, and style. From a young age, Arthur A. Dixon was recognized for having a rare talent, which led him to exhibit his works in his native London. When he was just 24 years old, his paintings were presented at the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Society of British Artists. It is to this period that we can attribute our painting of this exquisite mother holding her child in her arms. Before Arthur Dixon became the most famous illustrator of his time, in his paintings, he was a forerunner of Pre-Raphaelite painting. Everything in this painting, from the style to colors, reminds us of the works of artists such as John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Edward Burne-Jones. From gracious princesses in iridescent robes to biblical scenes and knights in shining armor, Arthur Dixon's artistic mark was always at extraordinary levels. He painted many romantic and poetic scenes without slipping into sentimentality or conventionalism.
