About the Item
Whimsically painted by an American artist transplanted to Argentina, this depiction of two vendors selling hats, hammocks and fabric in Salvador, Brazil is full of color and energy. The artist, Ada Peacock, was born in the American Midwest, but later settled in Argentina, and is best known for her depictions of South American natives, at a time when America was starting to take an interest in Latin America. This painting was sold by the John Wanamaker's in Philadelphia, in an era when many of America's better department stores maintained fine art galleries.
