About the Item
Wonderful oil-on-canvas portrait, early 1900' era, by painter Ernestina Mak Orlandini. The portrait depicts a lady dressed in white holding a bouquet of flowers. Measures 190 cm x 120 cm.
The painting is unsigned, but the brushstrokes, background and dark colors are typical of the painter that make her paintings unmistakable.
BIOGRAPHY:
Ernestina Orlandini (Hanau, February 2, 1869 - Florence, 1956) was a German painter naturalized Italian. she married Alfredo Orlandin for whom she obtained Italian citizenship, took up residence in Florence, and has been known ever since as Ernestina Orlandini or Enrichetta Orlandini, or as Ernestina Mack Orlandini
She had been among the founders, in 1893, of the Berlin Secession (Berliner Secession), which brought together a group of artists and architects who had distanced themselves from the dictates of academic art. In Florence Ernestina Orlandini went through the experience of Divisionist painting, then entered the orbit of the Post Macchiaioli, producing fresh, luminous landscapes and delicate floral compositions.
