About the Item

Portrait of the Countess of Fuenteblanca, oil on canvas, Spanish school, late 18th century in gilt frame Small oil on canvas depicting the Countess of Fuenteblanca, captured with a serene expression and distinguished bearing. The lady appears soberly dressed, wearing a knightly decoration on her chest that reinforces her rank and social relevance. The pictorial treatment, with meticulous brushwork and delicate modeling of the face and hair, reflects the elegance characteristic of Spanish portraiture during the transition from the 18th to the 19th century, with a neutral background that draws attention to the figure. The natural crackle of the surface confirms the age of the work, which is presented in a gilt Empire-style frame, befitting its dignity. A piece of great historical and artistic interest linked to the Spanish nobility. 50.5cm x 39cm with frame: 63.5cm x 52cm good condition documented provenance

Late 17th Century Oil Portrait of a Lady
Located in Lymington, GB
An oil on canvas portrait of a young French courtier, circa 1690. This evocative antique French-school picture has been attributed to the portrait painter Jean-François de Troy (1679-1752). De Troy was famous as a portrait painter of fashionable society women. This is a very attractive late-17th century painting surviving in its original frame and stretcher. The canvas appears to be untouched. References: 'Jean François de Troy, The Alarm, or the Gouvernante Fidèle', at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
