A 19th-century oil on panel attributed to French artist Henri Bellery-Desfontaines, titled Villaggio Sul Lago.
This painting captures a tranquil family scene at the water’s edge: a father and son fishing quietly by the riverbank, while the mother returns to their rustic cottage nestled among tall trees at dusk.
The warm glow of the setting sun, mirrored in the still water, enhances the nostalgic and almost melancholic tone of the painting.
Housed in a richly carved giltwood frame, the piece combines lyrical landscape with contemplation and storytelling.
Henri Bellery-Desfontaines (1867–1909) was a prolific French artist associated with the Art Nouveau movement. His multidisciplinary work spanned painting, illustration, decorative arts, and architecture. This piece reflects his early painterly style before his transition to design and ornamentation.
