About the Item

A fine Israeli oil on canvas painting. By Zvi Olivitzki (b. 1930, Haifa.) Depicting a woman with a floral skirt seated before a geometric Persian rug on a patterned upholstered chair that is placed at the center what appears to be of a large Chinese (or South East Asian) paisley carpet. Just a terrific study of pattern over pattern over pattern! Olivitzki fought and was wounded in War of Independence. He studied under Paul Hoenich and was at the Histadrut Studio for Art, Tel Aviv, with Shemi, Yaskil and Meirovitch from 1950-1953. By repute from the estate of Paul Wachter (the long-time Head of the International Division of General Motors). It measures approx. 36.5" x 22.5” and is currently unframed. Signed and dated 1960 to the reverse. Simply a wonderful painting! Date: 1960 Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: The painting has been recently professionally cleaned. There is one filled hole beneath the feet, spots of paint loss to the left-hand side, some high point paint losses in its thicker sections, and cracklature (most noticeable to the face, dress, legs). Otherwise, there are some fine light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Artist: Zvi Olivitsky Marks: Zvi Olivitsky 1960 to the reverse.
