About the Item
Making brilliant use of a Fauvist palette and a Secessionist vocabulary, this remarkable painting depicts three figures in the Austrian region of the Tyrol, just south of Bavaria. The central figure is garbed in traditional folk costume including lederhosen and vest, but the other two figures -- including a female figure in a vivid Japanese kimono to the left -- are more mysterious. The painting is on artist board, and was framed by the famed Altenberg firm in Vienna.
