Sepolgro di Agreppina, Neapolitan Guoache, 1790’s
Early guoache view of the sepulchre tomb complex of Agrippina along the coast outside Naples. The mother of Nero and wife of Emperor Claudius, she lived and “intriguing” life. Guoache laid on antique paper with handwritten ink notes visible through the reverse. Not a typical “view of Naples” from the period of guoache views, so all the more rare with it’s perspectival view of an interesting architectural complex, the ruins of which are still visible at Bacioli; all in later wood frame with black matting. Italy late 18th century
