About the Item

Exceptional 17th Century Spanish Colonial Cuzco School Oil on Canvas depicting the Virgin Mary. Mary is holding the Christ Child, surrounded by angels and lush floral motifs. Painting features the richly symbolic and highly decorative style characteristic of the Cuzco school, in colors of rich reds, greens, and gold. The Virgin is portrayed enthroned and crowned, her elaborate robe adorned with intricate floral designs symbolizing divine fertility and abundance. Two small angels hover above her amidst clouds, while radiant birds and vibrant flowers embellish the lower register. The composition is framed in an ornate giltwood frame.
