About the Item
This impressionist still life by French painter Léon Garraud depicts a table set with a plate of peaches and a vase of pink peonies and delicate white flowers. The warm palette of oranges, yellows, and pinks creates the perception of daylight clinging to the foreground, the background cast into shadow with dark browns and greens. Characteristic of still life oil paintings, the scene is painted with great attention to surface texture, from the soft matte of the ripe peaches to the hard shine of the glass vase. The painting is set within a magnificent gilt stucco frame, beautifully aged with mottled texture.
From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
Léon Garraud (French, 1877–1961)
