Dipinto Antico Ad Olio Su Tela Con Scena Biblica Con Personaggi E Architetture Del 1800 dal formato orizzontale rappresenta la scena di Susanna ed i Vecchioni che tra gli episodi dell’Antico Testamento é uno dei più frequentemente rappresentati, specialmente nel XVI e XVII secolo. La storia è nota: Susanna è un’eroina leggendaria la cui innocenza trionfò sulla perversa malvagità di alcuni uomini. La vicenda si svolge a Babilonia durante l’esilio. Susanna, moglie di un facoltoso ebreo, era oggetto di desiderio di due anziani della comunità che insieme concepirono una macchinazione per sedurla. Era solita prendere il bagno in giardino e là i due uomini le tesero un agguato: quando le ancelle se ne furono andate lasciandola sola, essi balzarono fuori dal loro nascondiglio e, sorprendendola nuda, minacciarono che se non si fosse concessa loro avrebbero giurato pubblicamente di averla colta in fragrante adulterio con un giovane, una colpa che veniva punita con la morte. Ma Susanna li respinse con sdegno e gridò invocando soccorso. I due vecchi irati, misero in atto la loro minaccia: Susanna venne condotta davanti alla corte sotto la falsa accusa, trovata colpevole e condannata a morte. Ma nell’undicesima ora il giovane Daniele si fece avanti e interrogò separatamente i due uomini e ne ottenne testimonianze contradditorie provando così l’innocenza di Susanna.
La rappresentazione di Susanna sorpresa ignuda dai vecchioni ha apparentemente intenti moralistici, ma è spesso un pretesto per soddisfare la “pruderie” di committenti che si compiacciono di soggetti di nudo femminile.
Il dipinto in oggetto raffigura Susanna ai margini seduta sul balaustro di una fontana decorata con sculture equestri, personaggi ed elementi zoomorfi. Davanti a lei un cagnolino osserva l’avvento dei due vecchiardi. Sullo sfondo la vegetazione di un cortile cintato oltre al quale si intravede uno scenario monumentale.
Il dipinto è stato foderato e presenta vecchi restauri, visibili nella galleria fotografica, oltre a macchie di vernice nella parte inferiore sinistra. Non è firmato ed è senza cornice.Italia metà 1800.
