About the Item

TOP OF THE LAKE Acrylic on canvas Measures: 12,9'' x 16,9'' Acrylic on canvas Vernon is a sculptor artist emerging from the French art scene. He began his training with the French sculptor Veronique Lacomme then turned to ceramics and painting. During his various apprenticeships, he went for long stays in the United States, a country he visited ardently and where he found his true inspiration, notably in Harry Bertoia and Alexander Calder. But it was when Vernon discovered the "Forms derived from a cube" of Sol LeWitt, an iconic American sculptor of the 20th century that he began to sculpt his heads and faces. Movement is one of the most important traits in sculpture. It is there that he finds the humanity of his characters in the simplest forms thanks to the suggestion of human postures: strength, grace, aggressiveness, melancholy or expectation. Committed to the preservation of nature and humanity, he also carves his own base in materials from mother earth, as well as preserving their own history. He thus uses soft stones from the 17th century or timber from the 18th century as the basis of his works, between transmission and reuse. His Architectura painting series is rooted in the glazing techniques used in the 17th century by the Flemish school. These techniques are used in the service of minimal, abstract and colorful painting. It takes between 6 and 12 months to create a painting with these oil techniques. Vernon's name is the one chosen by the artist to preserve his identity. "Anonymity is the only form of contemporary freedom, protection in a world where men expose themselves beyond what they should endure".
