About the Item
Oil on canvas by American painter William Sartain (1843-1924) titled Arab Shops No. 9. The street scene depicts a vendor sitting on a green mat under an awning on the stone steps in front of his shop as the sun creates shadows along the building walls. Great depth and accents of color. Overall 24" x 28". Image 18" x 22".
William Sartain was born in Philadelphia and is best known for scenes of tidal wetlands of Nonquitt, Massachusetts and the Manasquan River in New Jersey. His early works, however, featured street scenes of his travels in Venice and Algiers.
