Frederick Leslie Kenett (1924 -2012) "The Olmec Wrestler" Black white gelatin silver print, circa 1950s, mounted on card, framed Stamped on reverse ‘F.L. Kenett, The Studio, 4 Eldon Road London W8’ and inscribed ‘Olmec’ 39.5 cm. wide x 49.5 cm. high (54 cm. x 64 cm. incl. frame) “Unquestionably the greatest photographer of sculpting in the world who himself became a sculptor”. Tom Rosenthal, The Listener, 1960s This highly decorative framed vintage photograph is a beautiful example of Kenett's sculptural photography. Frederick Leslie Kenett was born in Berlin in 1924 to a German doctor. Kenett was forced to flee the country in 1939 and came to England, joining the US Intelligence Corps during the war, where he developed an interest in photography. Kenett undertook important commissions for museums, publishers, governments and collections across the world, specialising in photographs of sculpture and works of art. The Olmec Wrestler is a basalt statuette dated to between 1500-400 BC and often regarded as one of the most important sculptures of the Olmec culture in ancient Mexico. The near life-size figure has been praised not only for its realism and sense of energy, but also for its aesthetic qualities. The sculpture is in the collection of the Museo Nacional de Antropología, Mexico City.

These listing photographs are very hard to shoot under glass. They are sharp, clear photographs printed the old fashioned way, by hand in the late 50s and early 60s. BIO: Bruce Harry Bellas (July 7, 1909 – July 1974) was an American photographer. He was influential in his work with male physiques and nudes. Bellas was well known under the pseudonym Bruce of Los Angeles. History and influence Bruce Harry Bellas was born in Alliance, Nebraska on July 7, 1909. He worked as a chemistry teacher there until 1947, when he began photographing bodybuilders in Los Angeles, California, beginning with taking pictures of bodybuilding competitions. In 1956, Bellas launched his own magazine, The Male Figure. Among physique photographers, Bellas' work was noted for having a distinctly campy, tongue-in-cheek sensibility. Bellas also produced a number of early homoerotic 8 mm films with titles such as Cowboy Washup and Big Gun for Hire. Bellas was known to travel around the country, finding new models to photograph and also personally delivering nude photographs to customers, since they were liable to be seized by postal inspectors if sent through the mail.
