A gelatin silver print featuring "Las Trancas" (the Fences) by Mexican photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo. The image is placed on its original passe-partout, which is signed by the artist on the lower right, right under the photography. The photograph is installed on a metal frame with anti-reflective glass.
Photo's dimensions: 21 x 26.5 cm.
Frame's dimensions: 2 x 49 x 40 cm.
The photograph is published on the book "Manuel Álvarez Bravo: el artista, su obra, sus tiempos". Texto de Elena Poniatowska. México, Fomento Cultural Banamex, 1991. p. 54. The book will be included as a gift.
Manuel Álvarez Bravo (1902 - 2002) is a Mexican artistic photographer, widely considered one of the most important of 20th Century Latin American photography. The son of a teacher, he introduced himself in the craft at early age thanks to his grandfather, a portrait maker active in Downtown Mexico City.
His father died in 1914, so he had to leave school to do several works to help his family. While he was studying to become an accountant, he would attend fine arts classes at the Academy of San Carlos. In 1923, he met Hugo Brehme; by 1924 he had bought his first camera and by 1927, Edward Weston and Tina Modotti had already made a definitive impact on this life. His career spanned from the second half of the 1920's until the middle 1990's. His archive was donated to the National Institute of Fine Arts in 1973.
