About the Item
Mid 20th Century photo of the SS United States in dry dock. The SS United States was a luxury passenger liner built in 1952
for the United States Lines. It was designed to be the fastest
passenger ship in the world, a title it achieved on its maiden
voyage, breaking the transatlantic speed record. The ship was a
symbol of American engineering and design prowess during the
Cold War era.
It was taken out of service in 1969 and has since been docked in
Philadelphia, awaiting redevelopment. The ship remains an iconic piece of maritime history, representing a bygone era of
transatlantic travel. The photograph likely captures the ship
during its construction or a period of maintenance in dry dock. Overall in good condition it does have a mark top right. This is a great piece of American history and would look great framed.
