Original French film poster for the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
Humphrey Bogart was Warner Bros. biggest star at the time of this film. Bogart
had up until this time successfully played many roles as a screen hero. This film allowed him to play the greedy tortured soul Fred C. Dobbs, a character that was a far cry from his other roles. The film was directed by John Huston, and starring alongside Bogart is Tim Holt, and the director's father, Walter Huston. classic romantic comedy directed and produced by William Wyler, and stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Hepburn won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. The film also won two other Oscars for the screenplay and costume design.
Rene Peron (1904-1972) on of the great French poster artists designed the definitive piece for this classic Bogart film used for the films fist French release in 1949. Very few examples have ever surfaced.
This is the rarer large size French poster. Far fewer were printed, and as they were designed to be pasted up on billboards therefore only unused examples survived.
This poster is conservation linen backed and it would be shipped rolled in a very strong tube and sent by Federal Express
