Original midcentury art exhibition poster from the Galerie Lovreglio in Nice, France depicting the work of Henri Maccheroni a French painter. This poster depicts the abstract art that this well known painter completed in the mid-1970s.
This poster is from the Inri exhibit is dated 1975.
Born in Nice in 1932, Henri Maccheroni began in the 1960s with large post-surrealist canvases, associating a form of biomorphic abstraction close to Quebec Automatists and certain surrealist tendencies imbued with abstraction.
Working in series, he seeks to question the myths of Western painting: Eros, Thanatos, the Crucifixion, the City and painting itself as the foundation of aesthetic writing.
During the seventies, he practiced and theorized a socio-critical art.
His work was exhibited in many countries around the world.
One hundred and fifty books mark out his career as a painter, photographer and engraver. They bear witness to his numerous collaborations with his poet and writer friends: Pierre Bourgeade, Michel Butor, Claude Louis-Combet, Jean-François Lyotard
