About the Item
Original antique advertising poster for Theatre des Champs-Elysees Ballets Leonidoff featuring a great illustration of a performance depicting a lady in a red dress holding a mask with a white bird on her hand, a masked man in a black, grey and white harlequin costume holding his hands in prayer and kneeling at her feet on stone steps, the colours reflected on the water with the ends of two gondola boats in the foreground and doves flying above against the blue background. The Art Nouveau style Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris was opened in 1913. The Leonidoff Ballet was founded by the silent film actor, singer, dancer and choreographer Ileana Leonidoff (Elena Sergeevna Pisarevskaya; 1893-1968) with Aldo Molinari in 1920. Printed by H. Chachoin, Paris. Large size. Good condition, creasing, staining, repaired tears, folds, backed on old linen.
