About the Item
Original antique poster advertising the Touring Club de Belgique featuring a stunning Art Nouveau design by the Belgian artist Georges Gaudy (1872-1940) depicting a colourful countryside view with an elegant lady with red hair wearing a blue dress with yellow flowers on the sleeves, holding out a stretch of road like a scroll with a person driving a classic automobile car towards a Touring Club road sign she's holding that reads Descente Dangereuse / Dangerous Descent with a red arrow on it, a person wearing a hat and walking with a cane by the bold stylised title text across the image, and people cycling on bikes with a man holding up his cap in welcome at the Hotel Du Touring, a cyclist riding a tricycle on a small bridge over a river and a horse drawn carriage passing trees in the distance, the logo of the Touring Club De Belgique in the corner below with two lions on the sides of a wheel and a crown on top. The Touring Club of Belgium was founded in 1895 to provide cycling tourism and bike safety; the association evolved over the years and now provides roadside assistance to all motorists and road users throughout the country and abroad. Printed by A. Benard Liege. Acceptable condition, restored tears, restored creasing, restored paper losses, staining, backed on linen.
