6 Chevaux / SF Cody against Fournier and Gaby on a tandem bicycle Grand Match for 20,000 Francs between the Tandem and 6 Horses - featuring a great design depicting two men riding a tandem bicycle at speed on a track next to the famous American Wild West showman Samuel Franklin Cowdery (Samuel Franklin Cody; 1867-1913) on a horse watched by spectators in the field with trees in the background, the bold stylised text above and below. This 178 kilometre race held during Cody's European Tour was won by Fournier and Gaby. Due changing his name, the notable showman SF Cody was often confused with Buffalo Bill Cody; he was also an aviator and early aeronautics pioneer, known for working on the 1904 Cody War Kite manned flying machine used by the British for artillery spotting and, in 1908, he was the first man to fly an aeroplane built in Britain. Printed by Parisienne Mon. Emile Levy, Paris. Large size. Good condition, restored tears, restored folds, restored paper losses, staining, backed on linen.
