Original antique cruise travel advertising poster for The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company - The Royal Mail Line The comfort route to New York
South America 85 Years of Shipping Experience - featuring a stunning design by the notable illustrator and commercial artist Austin Cooper (1890-1964), depicting two images with gentlemen looking at each other through time with the headings Incorporated by British Royal Charter 1839 and Chosen by Travellers of Discernment 1924, both smoking and holding walking canes in front of stylised cloud backgrounds, the smartly dressed man in a top hat and tails with fashionable sideburns beard standing in front of a paddle steamer sailing by with a Barbados label on his travel bag on the left, and the more modern man wearing a suit and bowler hat standing in front of a tug boat and steamship at sea with New York and 1st class State Room labels on the suitcase by his side on the right, the bold title text on the margin below. Royal Mail Lines (1932-1965) was a leading cruise ship operator created to take over The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company (founded 1839); in 1965, it was taken over by a British transport operator, Furness Withy
Company (1891-1980). Printed by Sanders Phillips and Co., Ltd., The Baynard Press. Horizontal. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, staining, minor creasing, backed on linen.
