Original antique travel poster - GNR Skegness is so Bracing - issued by the Great Northern Railway for the seaside town located on the North Sea in Lincolnshire featuring the fun and iconic mascot of Skegness, The Jolly Fisherman, created in 1908 by the notable English illustrator John Hassall (1868-1948), wearing a hat and a red scarf and smoking a pipe, skipping along a sandy beach in boots with his arms held out, his reflection in a pool of water by a starfish and an address for a Free Booklet and Information, the title text in bold lettering on the green border with smaller versions of the character in each corner. Instantly recognisable, The Jolly Fisherman is one of the most famous holiday advertisements of all time and has been reused for several different posters over the years. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, restored paper losses on edges, staining, backed on linen.
