About the Item
This is an original study of the famous Michelin Man by world renowned French artist, Bernard Villemot. This small scale maquette was used as a draft study. It has been painted in gouache and is hand signed by the artist himself.
Bernard Villemot, born in France in 1911, was a French graphic artist who designed and produced advertising campaigns for some of the biggest companies such as Bally Shoe, Orangina, Air France and Perrier. Villemot distinctive style included bold colour, elegant figures and simple forms. Villemot is considered to be one of the most distinguished poster artists of his time. His work featured in French magazines of the time, as well as street advertising.

Bernard Villemot
Villemot, one of the leading graphic designers in France during the post-war period, is regarded as one of France's most talented twentieth-century poster artists. He was the subject of retrospective exhibitions at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris between 1980 and 2000. Belonging to the movement that moved towards an international graphic style after the Bauhaus and de Stijl, Villemot's advertising clients included Air France, Perrier, Orangina, and Bergasol. His work is characterized by vivid colors, thin outlines, and abstract and organic forms.
