This striking chromolithograph, Plate XCIV from *L'Ornement Polychrome*, features an opulent collection of watch chains, chatelaines, and ornamental jewelry mounts from the 17th and 18th centuries. These richly decorative items were not only functional but also served as fashionable accessories among European nobility, particularly in France during the Baroque and Rococo periods.
Set against a dramatic black background, the page displays over twenty detailed examples of chatelaines—pendant chains or clasps worn at the waist, often suspending timepieces, keys, seals, or decorative charms.
