About the Item
Åke Holm, Sweden.
Woodcut, Laban and his Daughters, 1978.
A powerful religious motif depicting the patriarch Laban holding his two daughters in his arms. The composition is reduced to bold, dark contours set against a pale ground, lending the work a monumental and iconic presence. Holm here merges biblical narrative with an expression that balances archaic weight and modern austerity.
Visible size: H. 21 cm, W. 18 cm
Frame: H. 37 cm, W. 27 cm
Signature / date: Signed “Åke Holm” lower right, dated 1978
Title: Laban and his Daughters

Åke Holm (1900–1980) was a Swedish sculptor, ceramicist, and printmaker, trained at the Technical School in Stockholm. He is particularly known for his religiously inspired motifs, executed in both ceramics and graphic works. His style is marked by archaic simplicity combined with strong personal expression. Holm’s works are represented in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and in numerous Swedish church collections.
