A modern medium gelatin silver print titled "Garment District, West 38th Street and 7th Avenue, New York City, 1940" by American photographer Andreas Feininger. Estate stamp and annotated on the verso. Known for his architectural precision and humanist perspective, Feininger frames two men working with covered garment crates against the backdrop of towering Manhattan skyscrapers, juxtaposing industry with the dynamism of city life. The photograph embodies Feininger's celebrated ability to balance documentary clarity with an artist's eye for composition, pattern, and light. This vintage print offers both historical and artistic significance, reflecting Feininger's role as one of LIFE magazine's most important photographers. This work stands as a powerful testament to Feininger's contribution to 20th-century documentary and architectural photography. From a private collection. Dimensions: 20.5"h x 16"w (unframed). In very good condition. Full condition reports are available upon request. Andreas Feininger (1906-1999) was a pioneering photographer celebrated for his iconic images of New York City and his long association with LIFE magazine, where he published over 350 photo-essays between 1943 and 1962. Trained as an architect at the Bauhaus, his photography became renowned for its structural clarity, dramatic compositions, and technical innovation. Feininger authored more than 30 influential books on photography, including the seminal The Complete Photographer (1965), which established him as both an artist and educator of international repute. His works are represented in major institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Widely regarded as one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, Feininger's contributions earned him enduring recognition for shaping modern documentary and architectural photography.
