About the Item

Antique French Print Villa à Villemomble by J. Amanovich Architecte, Chabat c.1900 This antique architectural print, titled Villa à Villemomble, presents the design of a suburban French villa by architect J. Amanovich. The plate (Pl. XLI, 2e Série) originates from Pierre Chabat’s renowned architectural series La Brique et la Terre Cuite (The Brick and Terracotta), published in Paris in the late 19th century to around 1900. The lithograph features a carefully drawn elevation of the villa’s façade, complete with a steeply pitched slate roof, decorative brick and stone detailing, and a prominent corner tower that adds a sense of grandeur and verticality. Above the elevation, floor plans of both the ground floor and first floor are shown, with a labeled legend identifying key spaces such as salon, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, and service areas. Villemomble, located in the eastern suburbs of Paris, became a desirable residential location during the Belle Époque, attracting the rising bourgeoisie who commissioned villas combining elegance, comfort, and modernity. This design exemplifies that style, balancing ornamental brickwork with rational planning, creating a villa both picturesque and functional. Pierre Chabat (1827–1892), a French architect and theorist, created *La Brique et la Terre Cuite* to highlight the artistic and structural qualities of brick and terracotta. The series remains a celebrated resource for architects, historians, and collectors interested in French domestic architecture and the decorative use of building materials. Condition report: Very good condition with strong colors and fine impression. Minor age toning near the margins, consistent with age. Plate mark visible. No major imperfections. Framing tips: Ideally displayed in a dark wood or gilt frame with a wide ivory mat to emphasize the crisp architectural lines. A subtle terracotta or burgundy liner would further enhance the warm tones of the brickwork. Technique: Lithograph Maker: Pierre Chabat, after designs by J. Amanovich (architect), France, c.1900
