About the Item
This is a printmaking called Hanga in Japanese. This Hanga was made around 1900s in Japan. As this is made with a paper and getting damaged, there is a new paper sticked on the back.
The man who is drawing on this hanga is called Mukan no Taifu / Taira no Atsumori.
His name is written on the right side and also left side.
Taira no Atsumori (1169–1184) was a samurai of the late Heian period of Japan. He was a member of the Taira clan who fought in the Genpei War against the Minamoto.
He is mostly known for his early death at the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani and his appearance in the epic The Tale of the Heike, in which he was killed by the remorseful warrior Kumagai Naozane. He is also the subject of the famous Noh play Atsumori.
Printmaking is the process of creating artworks by printing, normally on paper, but also on fabric, wood, metal, and other surfaces. "Traditional printmaking" normally covers only the process of creating prints using a hand processed technique, rather than a photographic reproduction of a visual artwork which would be printed using an electronic machine (a printer); however, there is some cross-over between traditional and digital printmaking, including risograph.
