About the Item

Antique print of hop pickers. It shows a family outside a thatched cottage with casement windows, gathering hops; an elderly woman sitting under a tre to left with a cat, picking hops from a branch and putting them into a basket, a man carrying a branch loaded with hops towards women and children in the yard to right, who sort them into baskets; with branches of hops standing in the ground behind the cottage, sheep grazing in a field beyond. This print is, most likely, a proof before writing. Engraving by F. Vivares after G. Smith. Published circa 1760.
