About the Item
Antique print titled 'De Nes of het Reaalen-Eiland (..)'. This print shows the Nes or Realeneiland or Huys te Nigtevecht, the estate of Mrs. Sara Reaal as seen towards Vreeland. Originates from 'De Zegepraalende Vecht, vertoonende verscheidene Gesichten van Lustplaatsen, Heeren Huysen en dorpen, beginnen van Uitrecht en met Muyden besluytende' published in Amsterdam by Andries de Leth / Wed. Nicolaas Visscher, 1719.
Artists and Engravers: Daniel Stoopendaal (Dutch) was active in Amsterdam from 1685 to 1713. Both Daniel and Bastiaan Stoopendaal made maps for the so-called Keur Bibles (published from 1666-1756). Most probably both were not related. Bastiaan worked mostly in the circle of Nicolaes Visscher. Daniel engraved topographical prints and maps.
Condition: Very good, general age-related toning. Blank verso. Please study image carefully.

Rare 18th century Dutch golf engraving by Jacques-Philippe Lebas depicting Dutchman playing the early form of golf on the ice. The Kolf engraving is entitled 'Vuë De Santvliet Village De Hollande' (View Of Santvliet Village From Holland). The scene shows a group of four Dutch gentlemen in the foreground playing kolf, the forerunner of golf. There are people skating on the ice and a gentleman can be seen kneeling whilst fitting on his ice skates. Paintings of life on the frozen waterways of Holland were very popular and many artists, usually known for painting rivers or landscapes, produced them.
