Antique Print of Various Marine Life Including Gymnothorax Afer (Dark Moray), c.1800
Description: This original handcolored copperplate engraving features various species of marine life, including Gymnothorax afer, commonly known as the dark moray eel. It originates from Friedrich Johann Bertuch's renowned Bilderbuch für Kinder (Picture Book for Children), published between 1790 and 1830. This iconic work, comprising 12 volumes and over 1,200 engraved plates, served as an educational tool for children, blending scientific precision with artistic beauty.
