Plate 27: 'Oostenryk. Orde van het Sterrekruis - Orde van St. Rupertus van Saltzburg - Orde van Vrouwen, Dienaressen der deugd.' (Austria. Order of the Starry Cross - Order of St. Rupert of Salzburg - Women's Order, Servants of Virtue). The Order of the Starry Cross (or Order of the Star Cross/Star Cross Order; German: Sternkreuz-Orden) was founded by Eleanora Gonzaga of Mantua, dowager empress of the Holy Roman Empire, in 1668. This all female order was confirmed by Pope Clement IX, June 28, 1668, and was placed under the spiritual management of the Prince Bishop of Vienna.
This print originates from ‘Geschiedkundige beschrijving der oudere en nieuwere, thans bestaande Ridderorden. - Afbeeldingen der Ridderorden’ by G.L. de Rochemont and J. Bischoff. A rare and expensive work on in 1843 existing cavalier / knight / military orders. Published in Amsterdam, 1843.
