About the Item

"Floral Masterpiece": Large Vintage Botanical Lithograph after Joseph Nigg, Printed by Mourlot, 1947 A magnificent and large-scale botanical lithograph, beautifully reproducing a painting by the celebrated Austrian artist Joseph Nigg (1782–1863). Produced in 1947 by the world-renowned Ateliers Lithographiques Mourlot in Paris, this print captures the opulent detail and vibrant coloration of Nigg's original work. The composition features an elaborate, overflowing vase of flowers set upon a marble ledge, teeming with tulips, peonies, poppies, and delicate wildflowers, accompanied by grapes and peaches at the base. Nigg was famously a specialist in porcelain painting, and this lithograph faithfully translates his signature style—marked by precision, luminosity, and a jeweled palette—onto paper. Edition Printing: Printer: Ateliers Lithographiques Mourlot, Paris (famous for working with Picasso, Matisse, and Chagall). Date: 1947. Edition: Limited edition of 250. Paper: Printed on high-quality Arches paper. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The colors remain rich and vibrant. Housed in a complementary frame (as shown). Measurements: Height: 39 3/4 inches (101.0 cm) Width: 31 inches (78.7 cm) Depth: 1 inch (2.5 cm) Historical Context: Joseph Nigg was the quintessential Biedermeier flower painter, serving as the head of the painting class at the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory. His works were prized for their technical perfection. This mid-20th-century lithograph serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of his art, produced by the Mourlot studio—a workshop instrumental in the resurgence of fine art lithography in the modern era.
