Carle Vernet (1758/1836) peintre , dessinateur et lithographe français est né à Bordeaux dans une famille d'artistes. Fils de Jospeh Vernet et père d'Horace Vernet, il remporte le prix de Rome en 1782. Spécialiste des scènes de bataille, de courses hippiques et de portraits équestres, il est très apprécié sous l'empire, notamment par Napoléon. il meurt en 1836
