About the Item

This beautiful chromolithographic print is from the first edition of the Argentian artist Axel Amuchastegui's work, Love Life of the Birds and was made in 1952. It is in excellent condition on fine white rag paper with strong plate marksa nd includes original antique frame. Each print is signed in the plate by the artist. It is excellent value considering its beauty, size, condition and rarity. Axel was was born in 1921 in Cordoba, Argentina, and was a self taught artist. He loved the beauty of the natural environment in which he grew up, raised by his grandmother and parents to have a love of the creatures of the wild. He developed a unique technique for his paintings using Chinese inks and watercolors. There is now a tremendous appreciation for Axel Amchastegui's work and he is considered one of the great ornithology illustrators of the 20th century. Argentina has designed several postage stamps from his paintings.
