About the Item
Beautifully framed set of six colorful and very decorative children's prints. The prints are illustrations from the book Les Malheurs de Sophie (Sophie's Misfortunes) by the Comtesse de Ségur.
The text at the bottom of the image, "Sophie S'Amusait a Les Regarder"" translates from French to "Sophie amused herself by watching them" - watching fish in basin.
"Paul, Qui Etait Furieux, Les Repoussa" translates from French to "Paul, Who was Furious, Pushed Them Back" - children running.
"Sophie vit un Joli Petit Ecureuil" translates to "Sophie Saw a Pretty Little Squirrel" - Watching squirrel in tree.
"Moi Je La Trouve Assez Jolie" translates to "I Find Her Quite Pretty" - looking at turtle.
"Sophie Attrape des Mouches" translates to "Sophie Catches Flies" - catching flies in her hat.
"C'Etait Elle Qui Le Gardait" translates to It was She That Kept Him - rooster on string.
About the Book: "Les Malheurs de Sophie" (The Misfortunes of Sophie) is a classic French children's novel by the Comtesse de Ségur. Possibly taken from a 1933 edition of this book was published by Maison Alfred Mame et Fils and illustrated by Marie-Madeleine Franc-Nohain. More than likely the prints were from that book.
The prints are presented in carved gilt frames with fine bead trim, lilac ribbon trimmed mat and glazed.

Sight: 7 1/4" x 9 1/4"
Frame: 14" x 16 1/2" x 1" D
Condition: one print with "trapped" brown thread under glass, minor wear to the frames, touch of browning to the prints, some glue discoloration around ribbon, one with loss to lower right corner, some with minor chips to corner acanthus leaf corners. Overall good condition with charming and appealing presentation.
