About the Item
This work by celebrated American painter Jane Freilicher (1924–2014) represents the poetic sensibility and painterly refinement that defined her career. Closely associated with the New York School and admired for her lyrical depictions of interiors, still lifes, and landscapes, Freilicher’s work bridges postwar abstraction and representational painting with quiet elegance.
Untitled, from the portfolio Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror, reveals her nuanced approach to color, light, and form.
The piece captures her ability to transform the everyday into something timeless, evoking intimacy while reflecting the intellectual and artistic dialogue of her circle, which included poets and painters such as John Ashbery, Frank O’Hara, and Fairfield Porter.
As part of a rare edition, this work offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a piece tied to one of the most significant cross-disciplinary collaborations of the late 20th century.
Both historically resonant and visually compelling, it is a refined addition to any serious collection of postwar American art.
