About the Item

Decorate an office or study with this antique black and white engraving. Hand colored in England circa 1847, the large Egyptian monochromatic etching is set in a gilt frame with protective glass, and depicts the "Temple of Hathor at Dendera" in Egypt. The decorative wall decor is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns wonderful details. The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is one of Egypt’s best-preserved ancient temples, dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love, music, and motherhood. Built during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods atop older structures, it features grand columns with Hathor-faced capitals, vibrant astronomical ceilings, underground crypts, and rooftop chapels. The temple is famous for its richly detailed carvings, including the Dendera Zodiac and depictions of Cleopatra VII with her son Caesarion. A stunning example of ancient Egyptian religious architecture, it offers a vivid glimpse into both traditional and Greco-Roman-influenced beliefs. Measures: 27.5" W x 22.25" H.
